The OB Medical Education & Clinical Informatics Coordinator is central in coordinating education, onboarding, competency, and informatics support for the Maternal Infant Unit (MIU), while supporting educational activities related to the accredited OB/GYN residency program. The coordinator is responsible for enhancing the quality and consistency of clinical practice in the MIU through structured education, policy guidance, and the use of data-driven tools. In addition, this position will coordinate activities related to the accredited OB/GYN residency. This will include support for the site director in maintaining compliance with accreditation requirements, onboarding and support for residents, and assistance in oversight for the clinical learning environment.
- Staff Education & Competency (Primary Focus – MIU):
- Coordinate onboarding and orientation for new MIU staff, ensuring comprehensive exposure to unit protocols, safety practices, and patient care standards.
- Develop and manage annual skills labs, simulations, and in-service education focused on labor & delivery, postpartum, newborn care, and emergency procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date records of clinical competencies, licensure, and certifications (e.g., NRP, fetal monitoring, STABLE).
- Partner with clinical educators and nurse leaders to assess staff learning needs and develop responsive educational programming.
- Clinical Informatics Support (MIU):
- Serve as the MIU’s primary liaison to clinical informatics teams for EHR workflow build, optimization, and issue resolution.
- Provide EHR training and ongoing support for staff on documentation, order entry, and use of decision-support tools.
- Collaborate on the development and implementation of unit-specific templates, smart phrases, and clinical pathways.
- Generate and interpret data reports to support education, quality monitoring, and performance improvement.
- Quality Improvement & Policy Review:
- Assist with the design and implementation of quality improvement (QI) projects focused on clinical safety, patient outcomes, documentation accuracy, or workflow efficiency.
- Track data and metrics related to MIU QI initiatives; create reports and presentations for leadership and staff.
- Participate in regular policy and procedure reviews; help align updates with current evidence-based practice and regulatory guidance.
- Coordinate staff education and rollouts of policy or protocol changes.
- OB/GYN Residency Program Support:
- Coordinate activities related to the accredited OB/GYN residency, ensuring compliance with ACGME standards and program goals.
- Support the Site Director in maintaining accreditation compliance, preparing documentation, schedules, and tracking resident requirements.
- Assist with onboarding and ongoing support for OB/GYN residents, including orientation, EHR access, and exposure to clinical expectations.
- Contribute to oversight of the clinical learning environment, monitoring resident experiences, supervision, and integration into the care team.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration:
- Serve as a liaison among MIU leadership, educators, clinical informatics, quality teams, and the residency program.
- Collaborate on cross-functional initiatives that impact staff development, workflow, or clinical systems.
- Support interdisciplinary committees and attend meetings as a representative of education and clinical informatics.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in maternal-child health (e.g., L&D, Postpartum, NICU).
- Experience in clinical education, staff onboarding, or informatics strongly preferred.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of maternal-infant care and hospital-based workflows.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and EHR systems (MediTech preferred).
- Excellent interpersonal, teaching, and project management skills.
- Ability to analyze data, facilitate meetings, and develop educational content.
- Comfortable presenting to interdisciplinary audiences and collaborating across departments.
Certifications:
- Current RN license (if applicable).
- NRP Instructor, C-EFM, STABLE Program, or Clinical Informatics certification preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Work is split between clinical units and office settings.
- Occasional off-shift availability may be needed to meet educational or onboarding needs of night/weekend staff.
