There are around 13,000 elective and emergency gynaecology admissions each year with a mixture of day case and main theatres lists. There are 38,000 outpatient contacts in a gynaecology clinic setting. Services include colposcopy, urogynaecology, infertility, outpatient hysteroscopy and cancer services organised with the regional centre.
Specialist Obstetric services include fetal medicine, diabetes, HIV, mental health and twin antenatal clinics. There is the agreement for the development of a new midwifery led unit on the QE site in the near future. Emergency gynaecology admissions are admitted through the Queen Elizabeth and University Hospital Lewisham sites.
There will be opportunities to support the development of specialist skills with sessions dedicated to the specialist interest of the candidate e.g. Colposcopy, early pregnancy scanning, Minimal access clinics etc.
Day case work and out-patient clinic services are provided across the two sites The increased size of the trust means that there will be opportunities to increase and improve specialist gynecology services. There are currently 24 consultants in Women’s Services all of deliver both Obstetrics and Gynaecology services.
The management structure for the trust is based on six directorates; Obstetrics & Gynaecology is in the Directorate of Women & Sexual Health.
The successful candidate will participate in the 1:13 full shift rota providing cover for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology in a three-tier system. The on-call team comprises an SHO (two SHOs 0800-1700), two registrars and a Consultant. The consultant is resident from 0800 – 2000 to support high-quality care and outstanding training opportunities.
