About The Organization
The research projects fall within the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience and relate to examining psychological and interpersonal aspects of couples’ sexuality and romantic relationships. The Research Assistant will be expected to work collaboratively with other members of the Couples and Sexual Health Laboratory (
www.natalieorosen.com ), which includes a multidisciplinary team of research collaborators, trainees and staff; including post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduate students, and research and administrative staff.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Lab Director, the Research Assistant will provide research and administrative support to the Lab Director and will assist with the recruitment of participants and data collection, among other duties related to ongoing projects with funding from CIHR and SSHRC .
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, write, and submit ethics applications, revisions, and amendments to the Research Ethics Boards at the IWK Health Centre and Dalhousie University.
- Assist the Lab Director with research-relevant tasks such as literature reviews and formatting of presentations or manuscripts.
- Coordinate recruitment (e.g., print and online advertisements, posters), recruit participants, screen for eligibility, obtain informed consent, and administer online questionnaires. Maintain and organize recruitment data and files.
- Maintain excellent professional relations with participants and ensure long‐term involvement in the studies through regular correspondence over email and telephone.
- Continue data collection and follow up with the enrolled participants, including ongoing consent discussions, administering online questionnaires, in-lab data collection procedures, organizing SPSS data and files, and entering and cleaning data into databases.
- Respond to inquiries from prospective research volunteers. Coordinate interviews, and participate in the interviewing, selection, and training of successful volunteer candidates. Manage the volunteer team. i.e., delegate tasks to volunteers, oversee volunteer work, and act as the volunteers’ primary contact in the lab.
Note
Occasional evening and weekend work will be required to meet operational requirements.
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in psychology (honours preferred) or health-related discipline.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Demonstrated ability to establish rapport, effectively communicate, both verbally and written, and interact with adults around sensitive topics (i.e., sexual dysfunction, depression, etc.) or under stressful circumstances.
- High proficiency in computer programs (e.g., MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Canva) and office equipment.
- Ability to prioritize workload, multitask, and quickly adapt to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team structure in a professional manner.
Assets
- Related experience with clinical psychology, health populations and/or clinical experience (which could be related to research) in a health centre or other relevant environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and good professional judgment, as well as evidence of taking initiative.
