Job Summary :
Genetic Counsellors are allied healthcare professionals with graduate degrees and specialised clinical training in genetics counselling. They work in diverse settings, offering direct patient care, non-direct patient care, or a combination of both services.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive genetic counselling sessions with individuals and couples seeking guidance regarding their reproductive options.
- Provide expert consultation to individuals and couples considering PGT-M and/or cytogenetic testing.
- Collaborate with laboratory personnel to coordinate PGT-M and cytogenetic tests, including the preparation of samples, test scheduling, and result interpretation.
- Offer emotional support and empathy to individuals and couples facing reproductive challenges, cytogenetic abnormalities, and making difficult decisions.
- Facilitate informed consent for genetic testing, cytogenetic analysis, and PGT-M procedures by explaining the associated risks, benefits, and limitations.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient interactions, genetic testing results, cytogenetic analyses, and treatment plans in compliance with relevant legal and ethical guidelines.
- Make appropriate referrals for further medical or psychological evaluation, as needed, Ensure confidentiality and privacy of patient information.
- Collaborate with the Genetic Director to implement policies and protocols, provide updates on patient cases, and contribute to departmental initiatives.
