Role overview:
The Registered Nurse II for Antenatal and Postnatal care provides comprehensive nursing support to women during pregnancy and after childbirth. This role involves monitoring maternal and fetal health, assisting with prenatal education, and supporting post-delivery recovery and newborn care. The RN ensures early identification of complications, promotes breastfeeding, and provides emotional support throughout the maternity journey. Collaboration with obstetricians, midwives, and paediatric teams is essential to ensure holistic, patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Monitor maternal and fetal health during antenatal visits, including vital signs, weight, fetal heart rate, and signs of complications.
- Provide prenatal education and counselling on nutrition, lifestyle, pregnancy changes, and preparation for labor and delivery.
- Assist in routine screenings and tests, such as blood work, ultrasound coordination, and gestational diabetes screening.
- Support postnatal recovery, including monitoring uterine involution, lochia, incision or perineal healing, and maternal vitals.
- Educate new mothers on breastfeeding, newborn care, postpartum hygiene, and emotional well-being.
- Promote and assist with breastfeeding, offering guidance on latching, positioning, and managing lactation issues.
- Provide emotional support and assess mental health status, referring to specialists when signs of anxiety or depression appear.
- Document care and communicate effectively with obstetricians, paediatricians, and other healthcare providers for continuity of care.
- Participate in health promotion activities, community outreach, or patient education workshops to improve maternal and newborn outcomes
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing with an active DOH license.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in obstetrics in hospital setting.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, with a focus on continuous professional development.
