Sunshine Coast Health Centre (SCHC) and Georgia Strait Women's Clinic (GSWC) are an ever-growing organization currently with 34 inpatient beds for men and 10 for women receiving treatment for addictions, mental health, and trauma. With the recent addition of psychotherapists under the Health Professionals Act, we are looking to add Registered Clinical Counsellors or Canadian Certified Counsellors to our Clinical Team. This position facilitates weekly group and individual sessions for clients 4 days per week under the direction of the Client Case Managers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Complete individual counselling sessions with clients
- Facilitate group psychotherapy
- Facilitate educational workshops if needed
- Conduct Meaning Therapy
- Follow client treatment plans as created by Case Manager and utilize therapeutic interventions to accomplish client goals
- Complete session notes after group and individual session
- Complete case management notes identifying barriers to goal accomplishment (as needed)
- Maintain interdisciplinary relationships
- Work with the coordinated interdisciplinary response team to address case management issues with clients.
- Attend weekly case management and clinical meetings
- Review client file and support notes in order to provide continuity of care and prevent client from repeating their story each session
- Participate in ongoing professional development (in-service and formal)
- Abide by and review code of ethics
- Adhere to clinical and ethical standards set out by the association or regulatory body the counsellor has joined
- Follow client appointment schedule as arranged by central scheduling team
- Submit requests for own counselling appointments to schedule
REQUIREMENTS:
- Work in accordance with Carl Rogers principles of client centered, accurate empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness.
- This includes not using confrontation as a style of counseling, working with clients according to client therapeutic needs, partnering with clients, being curious rather than directive.
- Be fully aware of the health care code of ethics and ethical decision-making process.
- Be responsible for assigned components of team caseload, spending sufficient time to work through issues with a client which may require working outside of regular hours.
- Share salient information with evening and overnight staff on what they should watch for and what actions they should take.
- Use only approved resources, for example all handouts, videos, and movies.
- Review new client admissions information, including medical and client history
- Discuss extensions
- Manage consent conversations such as limits of consent, withdrawing consent, additional consents
- Report client issues directly to the clinical manager or Nursing Director
- In collaboration with the team follow up on any behavioural issues that came up over the weekend
- Work as a team member communicating pertinent client details to other staff through established channels of communication
- In collaboration with team review issues of noncompliance with client as needed
- Record any contact with alumni in EMR system
- Complete all related paperwork including case notes, emails, or other clinical paperwork as needed
- Utilize feedback-informed treatment, administering and incorporating feedback through assessments
- Attend weekly case management and clinical meetings
