This established post provides an exciting opportunity to support the clinical work of one of the largest gynaecological oncology services in the UK. It also provides the opportunity for training and research activity within the department and would be ideal for someone considering subspecialty training, working in a unit lead capacity or completing the module in gynaecological oncology.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role would include involvement in major oncology cases in the operating theatre and on-going ward management. There will be opportunities to attend a Combined Oncology Clinic, Colposcopy Clinic with training and participate in the MDT meetings.

Job responsibilities
The Leeds Cancer Centre, which is part of the regional Yorkshire Cancer Network, is based at St Jamess University Hospital in Leeds and serves a population of 2.7 million. In addition to treating patients in Leeds, the provision of gynaecological cancer surgery for patients from York, Harrogate, Calderdale, Mid-Yorkshire and Bradford is centralised at St Jamess Hospital. Patients are cared for on a dedicated gynaecological oncology surgery ward and in the adjacent medical oncology ward in the Bexley Wing, a purpose built oncology facility. The Gynaecological Oncology department is focused on the management and treatment of all gynaecological cancer related issues, which includes cervical, endometrial, ovarian, vaginal and vulval cancer.
There are 10 theatre lists per week delivering a full range of open and laparoscopic surgical cases for gynaecological malignancy, thus providing a wealth of complex cases and training opportunities. This post has been established to support the clinical work of the gynaecological oncology team and also provide the opportunity for training and research activity within the department.
MEDICAL STAFF IN THE DEPARTMENT
The Gynaecological Oncology clinical workforce is comprised of 6 full time consultant posts who are supported by 2 RCOG recognised subspecialty trainees, a Trust Doctor and clinical fellow. There is an excellent multidisciplinary team and strong links with the associated specialties of colorectal, urological and plastic surgery.

DUTIES OF THE POST
In conjunction with the existing middle grade clinical workforce, duties would include the following:
Inpatient ward management
Participation in operating theatre sessions
Participation in the weekly combined Oncology Clinic and MDT.
LEVELS OF RESPONSIBILITY
The post holder will be required to undertake 10 sessions to support the needs of the service and provide flexibility to cover during times of leave. During the week, the trust doctor will lead ward rounds, attend theatre lists and clinics at least weekly. There will also be opportunities to undertake audit and research in a dedicated session, contributing to the portfolio of the department.
TEACHING AND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING
It is anticipated that the postholder will in collaboration with other team members, continue to undertake clinically based research within the centre. In addition, there are a number of established laboratory based projects both within the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Cancer Research Department. The postholder will be expected to participate in teaching activities within the department.

Experience Essential
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/Good Medical practise.
- Evidence of achievement of CT/ST1competencies in medicine (as defined by the curricula relating to Core Medical training)
- Evidence of achievement of ST2 competencies (or equivalency) in obstetrics and gynaecology
- Ability to provide complete details of employment history
- Evidence that career progression is consistent with personal circumstances
- Evidence that present achievement and performance is commensurate with totality of period of training
- At least 2 years experience in obstetrics and gynaecology.
