Position Overview:
A Third-Party Nurse in a fertility clinic specializes in coordinating and managing care for patients involved in third-party reproduction, including egg donors, surrogates, and intended parents. They provide medical and emotional support, facilitate donor and surrogate screening, treatment cycles, educate patients on medications and procedures, and ensure compliance with Health Canada regulations. This role requires strong communication, organizational skills, and expertise in assisted reproductive technology (ART).
Essential Job Functions:
- Acts as liaison between patients, physicians and agencies
- Providing emotional support and counselling to intended parents, egg donors, surrogates and their partners
- Gathers medical information to meet medical clearance standards set by Health Canada and clinic policies, including blood, urine, and swab test results, ultrasounds, medical records, obstetrical history, travel and immunization history, semen analysis, physical examination and health history assessment
- Reviews medical results and records with Physicians to determine medical clearance status
- Interprets blood and ultrasound results and facilitates patient understanding of their progress
- Translates complex medical information to help patients make informed decisions with regards to their treatment options under guidance of Physicians
- Coordinates IVF cycles with egg donors, intended parents and prepares surrogates and their partners for embryo transfer on behalf of intended parents
- Dispenses medications to patients in person and/or calls in prescription orders to local pharmacies as per Physicians
- Protects the privacy and confidentiality of all patients as per BCCNM guidelines, and protects the anonymity of anonymous egg donors from intended parents
- Provides medication teaching and safely administers medications within the nursing scope of practice
- Educates egg donors of their rights and responsibilities as per relevant legislation and clinic policy
- Organizes outside or satellite monitoring for egg donors and surrogates at other clinics or labs
- Books procedures such as egg retrieval and IVF with ICSI, PGS, hysteroscopy, intralipid infusion, lining check ultrasound, sonohysterogram and pelvic ultrasound, FET, early pregnancy ultrasound using IDEAs.

Communication:
- Communicates with patients clearly and regularly via email, phone and in-person
Maintains patient charts and ensures all documentation and consent forms are complete
- Liaises with agencies and lawyers as needed as it relates to their client
Knowledge:
- Performs duties and responsibilities according to relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines related to ART and third-party reproduction, including but not limited to,
- Assisted Human Reproduction Act (AHR Act), Health Canada, Public Health British Columbia, CFAS, and ASRM
- Functions within the scope of practice and nursing competencies set out by BCCNM
Qualifications / Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a cross functional team, maintain strong working relationships with co-workers and patients
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work, attention to detail
- Exercise good judgment and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive information
- Strong organizational, problem solving and time management skills
- Ability to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Current BC Nurse Registration (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BN), Nursing Science (BNS), or Science of Nursing (BScN) from an accredited university
- Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Safe and Effective Procedural Sedation and Analgesia (SEPSA)
- Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residency (Required)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $43.00-$50.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
