Overview Of The Position
Registered Nurse, with the state of Georgia, willing to provide temporary, on-call health services to our students and employees while filling in as a substitute for the regular school nurse. The major focus of school nursing services is the response to student and staff accidents, illnesses, and the prevention of disability from said accidents utilizing professional observation and diagnosis that can lead to early detection and correction of health problems. May be asked to sub for either lower school 1's- 4th grade or upper school 5th-8th grade.
Responsibilities
- Knowledge of basic care and treatment, experience in school, pediatric, public or community health preferred.
- Display competency in record keeping, charting and organization.
- Administer basic health care and first aid to ill or injured students and employees.
- Inform parents of ill or injured students in a timely manner.
- Serve as a medical resource and health advocate for students and employees.
- Supervise prescribed medical treatments and medication administration according to school policy.
- Maintain daily log of student clinic visits and action taken.
- Adhere to the bylaws, policies and procedures and to all laws that govern the school and its actions.
- Ensure that all procedures are efficient, safe, and effective, maintaining accurate documentation of clinical services, including emergency situations, while upholding ethical and professional behavior and confidentiality at all times.
- Organizes and maintains a clean and orderly clinic to ensure a safe physical environment, consistently practicing standard precautions. This includes securing medication cabinets, ensuring clinic supplies are adequately stocked, and placing sharps containers in appropriate locations.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands from wrist to finger and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands. The employee must be able to walk on campus, up/down stairs, and across uneven surfaces and must be able to perform emergency care, if, necessary, on floor, in hallways or tight spaces. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Qualifications
- BSN is the preferred undergraduate degree, but experience will be taken into consideration.
- Maintain an active State of Georgia Registered Nurse license.
- Current proof of CPR/AED/first aid certification.
- Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience; two years of clinical nursing and school nursing experience are preferred.
- Stay up to date with CEU requirements for the State of Georgia to maintain an active RN license.

- Works in a calm environment, but with a wide variety of challenges. Could advance to a crisis environment depending on individuals’ injury, illness or medication needs.
- Work is at a desk and computer for an extended period of time.
- Be able to occasionally assist individual to stand. Assistance will be available for weights over 25lbs.
- Work is primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment.
- Work can rarely require outside weather conditions including extreme heat or cold.
