We have a number of permanent Band 6 posts available in our Midwifery team at Ormskirk Hospital. Our posts are rotational throughout the service and would give the successful candidate the opportunity to work with us as we move forward in implementing the Ockenden requirements.

Acute Care
Providing emergency and maternity services at Whiston, Southport and Ormskirk hospitals, and medical and surgical specialties across all our sites.
Primary Care
Providing primary care services at Marshalls Cross Medical Centre situated in St Helens Hospital.
Community Services
Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancs. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Clinical & Professional Responsibilities
Adhere to the NMC Rules and Code of Practice at all times and abide by the Code of Professional Practice.
Accepts responsibility for personal, professional and education needs, including the attendance on in-services training and statutory study days.
To support and empower women throughout pregnancy and postnatal childbirth experience enabling them to make informed choice about their care, which is safe, effective and evidence based.
To work as an autonomous, competent practitioner within Trust guidelines.
To participate with audit and research within Maternity Services.
Provide sensitive and appropriate support for bereaved parents and demanding family situations. This may include issues relating to Child Protection, Substance Misuse and Domestic Violence.
Actively promote health promotion issues and participate in parent education.
Report all accidents and incidents in line with risk management policy.
Responsible for maintaining midwifery competencies by acquiring and consolidating the requisite knowledge and skills for safe midwifery practice.
Actively participate in the change process brought about by new initiatives in practice based on current evidence.
To ensure compliance to all Trust Risk Management, Research Governance and Infection Control Policies and Procedures and abide by the Standards for Better Health
To maintain contemporaneous documentation in line with Trust guidelines, Quality and Risk standards.
Undertake appropriate mandatory training in infection control and comply with all Trust Infection Control policies relevant to the post, particularly with regard to the hand hygiene policy
Take responsibility for managing own health and well-being.
The post holder is aware and identifies concerns relating to child protection (Childrens Act, 1989) to Clinical lead for area, liaising with the Named Nurse for Child Protection, Matron for Womens Health and the multidisciplinary team where necessary.
To show regard and respect for different ethnic, cultural and religious beliefs within the provision of all aspects of midwifery care.
To contribute to the achievement of quality and performance targets within work Area.
Line Management/Supervisory Responsibilities
Promote effective communication within the multi-professional teams, the public and other agencies.
Act as a mentor to Student Midwives/Nurses and provide support for more Junior staff.
Helps in the maintenance of a safe working environment and identifies problems to the immediate Manager/shift leader.
To comply with Maternity Services guidance on security of the newborn and baby Tagging security system, reporting any concerns to line manager
To participate in the formulation of policies and protocols relevant to the Speciality.
To provide leadership and support of the shift and oversee the Maternity Unit out of hours in the absence of the Delivery Suite Shift Leader as required.
