CLINICAL GENETICS POSITION
CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA
The Section of Medical Genetics and Department of Paediatrics, Alberta Children’s Hospital, invite applications for a 1.0 FTE Clinical Geneticist position. The successful candidate will provide care for patients referred to clinical genetics and prenatal genetics services, and participate in the clinical genetics consult service that covers in-patient consults for Calgary hospitals. The full-time position is broken down into 70% clinical, 20% research, 5% education and 5% administrative components with some flexibility based on candidate experience and interest. This position reports to the Section Chief of Medical Genetics.
The Section of Medical Genetics is based at the Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) and provides comprehensive clinical genetic services for prenatal, paediatric and adult patients and families from southern Alberta. This location houses the general genetics and metabolic genetics services with additional sites at the Cambrian Wellness Centre where the prenatal genetics service is co-located with Maternal Fetal Medicine, and Richmond Road Diagnostic and Treatment Centre for adult genetics. The Section has outreach services to the cities of Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.
There are 12 clinical geneticists on staff with extensive support of 20 genetic counselors and 5 genetics assistants plus administrative support staff. Our section receives roughly 7500 new referrals across all services and provides over 600 inpatient consults each year. Our medical genetics residency program has seven current residents and fellows. There are comprehensive on-site genetic laboratory services including biochemical, cytogenetic, molecular and exome sequencing laboratories. Our section has a rich academic environment, participating in clinical research including delineation of new genetic disorders, Care4Rare, One Child Every Child, and has the ability to conduct clinical trials. QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications include an MD or equivalent, certification or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians in Medical Genetics or the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists in Clinical Genetics, or equivalent. The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Must read, write, and speak English.
