POSITION SUMMARY: Perform direct patient-centered, trauma-informed care withing scope and in accordance with nurse midwifery competencies and licensing. Self-limited acute and stable, mild chronic conditions in primary care as related to peripartum, GYN, and newborn care up to 30 days. On-call hospital duties in scope and collaborative for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care.
Position Qualification Requirements
Education: Bachelor's Degree. Graduate from an accredited program for Advance Practice Nurses in Midwifery.
Experience: Three years' experience as a Certified Nurse Midwife including births (15 deliveries in past 12 months).
Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:
- Ability, skills, and knowledge to care for adolescent and adult patients for routine and low risk OB/GYN, pediatric, and adult care including hospital care as above.
- Strong computer skills with experience in word processing, e-mail software and capability to utilize Affinia Electronic Health Record.
- Ability to multitask and work cohesively with a team in a fast passed office and hospital environment.
- Enthusiastic, friendly, discreet, and professional demeanor.
Transportation Requirement: Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.
License(s)/Certification(s) Required
- Current License as a Registered Nurse of the state of MO.
- Board Certified as a certified nurse midwife
- CPR/BLS Certification Required.
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate (prior to starting intrapartum training/work)
- Eligible for NPI and DEA
Essential Functions
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Provides patient-centered, trauma informed assessment, counseling, and treatment for primary care patients as outlined above and appropriate for the clinician's scope.
- Makes appropriate referrals.
- Provides life support and emergency evaluation/care in response to life threatening situations in the absence of the physician and/or other appropriate health professional.
- Compiles complete and interval health histories on patients of specialty/scope.
- Performs complete physical assessment as well as physicals directed towards episodic, interval, or wellness care for patients within scope.
- Selects, performs and/or interprets the appropriate routine laboratory and diagnostic tests specific for specialty with timely patient follow-up.
- Counsels/educates patients with cultural humility regarding physical and mental health to include diet, health maintenance, therapy, normal growth and development, chronic disease management, family planning, etc.
- Attends training and provides Prenatal/Infant Group care as required.
- Responsible for OB/GYN hospital-based call-coverage as assigned and appropriate for scope under collaborative model.
- Participates in a collaborative agreement with a physician and maintains that standards in that agreement.
- Provides trauma-informed, comprehensive care in a collaborative, team-based setting.
- Maintains appropriate and timely records and documentation.
- Responds to calls from patients and hospital staff, during nights, weekends, and holidays based on the call schedule in effect.
- The above functions in accordance with Affinia policies, protocols, and guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Marginal Functions
- Attends CME sessions as required.
- Completes Peer Review and Affinia Healthcare mandatory education as required.
- Represent Affinia Healthcare within the service neighborhood and the larger community.
- Attends Providers, staff, and agency meetings, as necessary.
- Educates clinical learners as requested by Affinia Healthcare.
Supervises: None (Clinically mentors and gives feedback to medical assistant, nurse in clinical area)
