Administrative Officer Genetic Intake Assistant - Royal Hospital for Women

The Royal Hospital for Women is situated between the University of New South Wales and Coogee Beach.
The Department of Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) provides tertiary referral services in obstetric and high-risk pregnancy management, genetic counselling and prenatal diagnosis. There are two permanent part-time genetic counsellors, one senior and one junior. The junior Genetic Counsellor (GC) will work with the current senior Genetic Counsellor and will assist with the co-ordination and provision of prenatal and genetic counselling services at the Royal Hospital for Women (RHW) for hospital and privately referred patients. This includes aneuploidy screening and prenatal chromosomal testing, prenatal diagnosis, preconception/carrier screening and perinatal loss. The Genetic Counsellor acts as a resource and provides education on current and new developments and technologies in prenatal diagnosis and genetics to midwives, General practitioners (GPs), doctors and other health professionals both at RHW and regionally. The Genetic Counsellor works as part of the multidisciplinary team and functions within the policies and procedures of the Maternal Fetal Medicine, Royal Hospital for Women and Ministry of Health. The Prenatal Genetics Service works closely with and is supervised by clinical geneticists from both the Centre of Clinical Genetics Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick and RHW.
What You'll Be Doing

The genetic intake officer provides general support to the genetic team at the Maternal Fetal Medicine Dept. This is a varied role that includes provision of support for various aspects relating to patient flow through the department. The intake officer allows the genetic counsellors to manage the increasing demand for genetic counselling services and improves the capacity and productivity of the genetic counselling workforce. The role is a primarily administrative but is best performed by someone with some clinical knowledge, training or experience, as well as knowledge of NSW genetic services. Experience with the NSW Genetic Information System (TrakGene) would also be an asset.

Selection Criteria
- Ability to perform a wide range of administrative tasks in a demanding workload
- Excellent communication skills including accurate spelling, good comprehension, confidence in the spoken word and ability to deal confidently and courteously with people at all levels
- Team Player and willingness and ability to contribute to the overall performance and improvement of the Service’s administrative support
- Understanding of the services delivered by the Department of Maternal Fetal Medicine and Centre for Clinical Genetics (SCH)
- Experience of responding to a range of enquiries and determining the appropriate response in a complex work environment
- Experience with a genetics information database
- Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines and attention to detail
- Demonstrated commitment to providing quality service and quality improvement initiatives in workplace administrative practices and procedures
