Position Summary
The role of the midwife is to be the primary care provider to clients and their newborns during the childbearing year. The Midwife works collaboratively with other professionals and functions as a member of an inter-disciplinary health care team to provide effective comprehensive service to childbearing clients and their families. The Midwife is an autonomous primary health care provider who provides midwifery service to clients in a variety of settings such as in the client’s home, in community clinics, and in hospitals. The midwife may facilitate continuity of care beyond the childbearing year, such as well female care, Cervical Screening and contraception, in collaboration with other health care providers or services. All midwifery services are delivered in accordance with the policies and procedures of Prairie Mountain Health (PMH), the Midwifery Scope and Model of Practice, and the Midwifery Standards of practice as per the College of Midwives of Manitoba (CMM).
Qualifications
- Graduate of an educational program approved by the College of Midwives of Manitoba (CMM)
- Active registration or eligibility register with the College of Midwives of Manitoba
- Two (2) years experience in the past five (5) years as a Registered Midwife
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Training as delineated in Prairie Mountain Health Policy PPG-00002 CPR Training
- Completion of Fetal Health Surveillance within the past two (2) years
- Completion of Emergency Skills Workshop within the past two (2) years
- Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification with intubation within the past 12 months
- Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMRs)
- Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
- Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independently
- Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills
- Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures in a changing environment
- Demonstrated knowledge and competence of skills and concepts related to the position
- Demonstrated communication skills
- Ability to respect and promote confidentiality
- Ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis
- Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
- Ability to work effectively and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, clients and within interdisciplinary team
