Merrion Fertility Clinic is a not-for-profit organisation affiliated to the National Maternity Hospital. It is one of the leading providers of Assisted Reproduction Services in Ireland, providing treatment cycles for hundreds of couples every year and achieving pregnancy rates above the internationally recognised norms.
With the continued growth of the Clinic, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a talent and experienced Lab Aide to join our Laboratory team for a 12-month contract (maternity leave cover), with the possibility of permanent employment, though this is not guaranteed. Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Lab Aide to join our team in order to provide consistent and high standard of Assisted Reproduction Techniques to Merrion Fertility Clinic.
As a member of the embryology team, interpersonal skills are necessary, to ensure the smooth-running department. Patient contact requires the ability to convey complex, scientific information effectively and sympathetically. The ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external colleagues of all disciplines and levels in a professional manner.
Key Responsibilities:
· Sample reception – receipt of semen samples and associated administrative work
· Preparation of laboratory paperwork
· Batch acceptance of deliveries and weekly stock takes
· Laboratory witnessing.
· Assist with general lab cleaning/maintenance and equipment cleaning and disinfection.
· Documentation/record keeping and data entry and analysis of data
· Assist with solution preparation/aliquoting.
· Assist with dish/media set-ups.
· The Lab Aide will be expected to be involved in any other duties which may arise or be considered necessary.
Patient Care
- The Lab Aide may have direct contact with patients and must therefore be capable of dealing with delicate and confidential matters both sensitively and professionally.
- Confidentiality is of the utmost importance.
General Duties
- The Lab Aide will at all times work as part of our multi-disciplinary team to ensure uniformity of approach to patient care.
- Reporting of any incidents, non-conformances or complaints to relevant individuals in the Clinic verbally and in writing using appropriate documentation and following relevant policies/procedures.
- Observe restrictive areas and to adhere to any policies in place in these areas including access, gowning procedures, hygiene procedures and waste management.
- Completion of all relevant standard operating procedures in place and to notify the relevant manager of any deviation to these procedures.
- Patient identification and confidentiality protocols must be complied with at all times.
- To fulfil any policies, procedures, guidelines and practices in place in the Clinic, all of which are in place to sustain and improve on the Quality Management System incorporated to comply with regulations, legislation and codes of practice.
Research/Training
- Research and further training are encouraged. A research link is now established with the UCD School of Agriculture, Food Science and Veterinary Medicine.
The Laboratory Aide will be expected to be involved in any other duties which may arise or be considered necessary. The contents, role and responsibilities of the post will be reviewed and updated periodically by the Lab Manager/Nominee and post holder.
Working Time Pattern: Monday – Friday, Full time, 40 hours per week, some weekend shifts will be required.
Core Working Hours: 7:30 am – 3.30 pm with a 15-minute morning tea break and 30 minutes for lunch (with flexibility).
