As Structural Lead Engineer You Will Be
- Perform CSA design development in several project phases e.g. conceptual design, front-end design, detail engineering and design for integration of new facilities in revamp type projects as well for ‘small’ grass-root type of multi-disciplinary projects.
- Leading in structural, civil and geotechnical design within the projects and writing of contractor’s scope of works.
- Supervision, planning, organization of the work :
- Lead /coordinate a Civil Structural design team
- Prepare schedules, man-hour estimates, manpower forecasts.
- Communicate and align with clients, vendors and other disciplines.
- Supervise and act as mentor for a junior level designer of junior level engineer.
- Promote and support value improvements, initiatives and continuous performance improvement.
- Participate in design reviews within the project team.
- Works independently, controls / leads small teams including work sharing with foreign offices.
- Assure quality of work assigned; assure technical integrity of design documents.
- Proactive reporting project status and constraints.
- Prepare and check man-hour estimates and material estimates, and monthly budget reports for all engineering efforts.
- Perform technical bid evaluations of received bids of suppliers.
- Develop and review estimates and schedules, progress reports, including manpower forecasts
Establish, track, and monitor material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts
- Develop and review specifications, including design criteria
- Participate in activities associated with structural procurement packages, permitting, and subcontracting
- Perform and check calculations, and solve problems of complex to difficult engineering complexity
- Participate in people development through mentoring, development of training material, conducting training seminars, and performance appraisal input and counseling
- Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
- Indicate strong technical interests and background with structural engineering
- Capable to undertake structural engineering work related to resource project development and construction

Basic Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Sixteen (16) years of experience as a Professional Structural Engineer working with Canadian and American design codes to complete designs of steel and/or concrete structures in the industrial sector.
- Minimum of 10 years experience in mining and metal projects
- Minimum 5 years of experience as Lead Engineer in a mining and Metal project
- Competent and proven record in technical leadership roles.
- Discipline project execution related skills and experience
- Experience working in revamp projects is an asset.
- Experience in interdisciplinary coordination
- Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
- Driven to independently complete assigned tasks in a time-effective manner
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional registration with Engineers and Geoscientists, BC
- Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials
- Past record as Structural Lead engineer of a large Mining/Metals Projects
- Relevant practical field experience
- Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation program
Compressed work schedule: The Fluor Vancouver offices work a compressed work schedule offering every second Friday off.

Salary Range
130,000 to 253,000
Market Rate
The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
