About Us
Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) is a wonderful place to expand your career and grow your skills and knowledge. As a recognised leader in the healthcare industry, we provide a range of public health services to the Nepean, Blue Mountains, and Lithgow Region.
Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. The Nepean Campus has recently experienced tremendous growth and aims to support communities within and outside of Sydney’s western suburbs, providing world-class clinical facilities, services, and care.
The Nepean Blue Mountains Family Metabolic Health Service (FMHS) is a multi-disciplinary service that sees Paediatric (KidsFit4Future Clinic), Obstetric (Obesity Prevention and Lifestyle Clinic, OPAL), Adolescent (Young Adult and Adolescent Service, YAAMS) and Adult (Healthy Weight Clinic) patients. The service sees inpatients, outpatients, and community-based members of New South Wales, with a focus on the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. They offer individual and group programmes, as well as family-based interventions across the local health district, including by use of Telehealth. They are currently involved in work with the Wentworth Primary Health Network to improve services for obesity in the community and this role will include work towards integrated care also. This position will be required to participate in the development and delivery of clinical services and interventions in the obesity services within the NBMLHD and to support and participate in the developing integrated care programme that is directed at obesity and/or type 2 diabetes mellitus.
The successful incumbent will be actively involved in and lead quality improvement and service development activities, including supporting and contributing to relevant research linked to the FMHS. This role is also actively involved in clinical supervision of junior staff and students. The FMHS also participates in countrywide strategies to improve obesity stigma, to tackle the 'obesity epidemic', with a focus on Western Sydney, and to develop evidence-based best practice in obesity medicine. The successful applicant will be expected to participate as part of the FMHS in these activities.
