This is a unique opportunity to join the well-established Obstetric Medicine department at the Royal Hospital for Women, Sydney. The Royal is one of Australia’s foremost specialist hospitals for women and babies and is the principal teaching hospital for the University of NSW. It is a dynamic institution within the Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct, co-located with the Prince of Wales Hospital, and is in close proximity to the University of New South Wales, the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Mothersafe and a number of Research Institutes with a priority focus on Women’s Health across the Lifespan.
The Obstetric Medicine team works closely with a busy Maternal-Fetal Medicine service and the RHW Fertility service, as well as providing support to all Maternity Care providers and tertiary services throughout NSW. With 3,000 deliveries annually, the obstetric medicine team provides both inpatient and outpatient care for women with medical disorders in pregnancy, along with general medicine care for the Gynaecology and Gynae-Oncology departments. The successful applicant will be well supported by the current physicians to participate in general obstetric medicine and diabetes in pregnancy clinics, along with services including preconception counselling/telehealth, and will participate in the inpatient and after-hours on-call roster. Clinical research opportunities and educational opportunities are available through the University of New South Wales and the SESLHD Women’s Health Research Initiatives.
The Obstetric Medicine Staff Specialist will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the Maternity and Gynaecology Services Divisions.
This position is located at the Royal Hospital for Women, Randwick.
The Obstetric Medicine Service is seeking for a Staff Specialist to work at the Royal Hospital for Women. This is an exciting opportunity for committed individual to broaden their experience in Obstetric Medicine.
The RHW is a tertiary teaching hospital providing state-wide Maternity, Gynaecology, Gynaecology Oncology, Endogynaecology, Fertility (including IVF), Newborn Care services and Mental Health Services. The Senior Medical Officer will work closely with the RHW Maternity, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynaecology and Gynaecological Oncology Departments.
The successful candidate may be eligible for a conjoint appointment to the Prince of Wales Clinical School with the UNSW Faculty of Medicine. The level of the appointment will be determined by qualifications and experience.
The applicant must be dedicated to a teamwork philosophy and be able to demonstrate their ability to work as a team member within the facility.
Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

Drug and Alcohol, Mental Health, Breast screening, HIV/AIDS, Public Health, Women's Health, Youth Health, Sexual Health, Imaging and Pathology services are provided at a number of facilities across SESLHD.
The primary location of this position may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services and as approved by MDAAC to other facilities in SESLHD.

- Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate to provide AHPRA Registration Number on application.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and the relevant Award/Determination, and demonstrated subspecialty training in Obstetric Medicine. The candidate will have completed formal training in Obstetric Medicine and be eligible for or have a certificate to recognise that training from the Society of Obstetric Medicine Australia and New Zealand.
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
- Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality service in the specialty, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
- Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites. Demonstrated commitment to provision of a high standard of clinical care in the public sector setting.
- Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department. Preference given to candidates who are undertaking or have completed advanced research training in a research higher degree.
