Position Overview
The midwife is an autonomous practitioner who provides safe, flexible, maternity care to women in a variety of settings such as the client’s home, in community clinics and in hospitals. The role of the midwife is to be the primary care provider to women who are accepted into care and their newborn during the childbearing year. The midwife works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and will provide service delivery in accordance with policies and procedures of Southern Health‐Santé Sud, the Midwifery Model of Practice and Standards of the College of Midwives of Manitoba (CMM). Midwifery care is provided to the women and her newborn until six weeks postpartum. The midwife ensures continuity of access to care beyond the childbearing year by referring to public health/primary care to meet this need for the client and her family.
The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

La sage-femme est une praticienne autonome qui offre des soins de maternité sécuritaires et flexibles aux femmes dans divers contextes, tels que le domicile de la cliente, les cliniques communautaires et les hôpitaux. Le rôle de la sage-femme est d'être le principal fournisseur de soins aux femmes et à leur nouveau-né pendant l'année de grossesse. La sage-femme travaille en collaboration au sein d'une équipe multidisciplinaire et assure la prestation de services conformément aux politiques et procédures de Southern Health-Santé Sud, au modèle de pratique et aux normes de l'Ordre des sages-femmes du Manitoba. Les soins de sages-femmes sont fournis à la femme et à son nouveau-né jusqu'à six semaines après l'accouchement. La sage-femme assure la continuité de l'accès aux soins au-delà de l'année de grossesse en s’adressant à la santé publique qui répondra à ce besoin pour la cliente et sa famille.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Graduate of an educational program approved by the College of Midwives of Manitoba (CMM).
Formation (degré/diplôme/certificat)

Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification with intubation.
- Active/eligible registration with the College of Midwives of Manitoba.
