Position Summary:
The Lead Payroll Specialist is responsible for overseeing the payroll process, ensuring compliance with legal regulations, and supporting the Director of Payroll Operations in day-to-day operations. This role includes supporting payroll team members, leading process improvement initiatives, and providing mentorship and training. The Lead Payroll Specialist will also work closely with HR, Finance, and other departments to ensure accurate and efficient payroll operations.
What you will be doing:
- Process and manage the company's payroll, including calculating wages, deductions, and taxes.
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local payroll laws and regulations.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and reports.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies and answer employee payroll-related inquiries.
- Collaborate with HR and Finance departments to ensure accurate employee data and reporting.
- Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and other regulatory reports.
- Conduct regular audits of payroll procedures and records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Stay updated on changes in payroll laws and regulations and implement necessary updates to payroll processes.
- Act as the primary point of contact for escalated payroll issues.
- Acts as a mentor and support to payroll staff, offering training and professional development opportunities and providing guidance on complex payroll issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline payroll operations and enhance overall efficiency.
- Any other ad hoc duties may be assigned related to the payroll.
You have:
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation
- Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation is an asset
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in payroll processing, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations.
- Strong knowledge of payroll systems. Experience working with ADP is an asset.
- Proficiency Microsoft Office Suite (Excel proficiency is a must).
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The salary offered for this position falls within a specified salary range and will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and the specific needs of the organization.
