Collin County is seeking candidates for the position of Nurse Practitioner. This position performs professional nursing work including providing health care to County residents, coordinating and providing services of an assigned public health clinic, immunizations, sexually transmitted diseases, epidemiology, and tuberculosis to obtain personal and routine medical information from clients. Responsible for performing physical exams and screenings, administering medications and vaccinations, and counseling clients. Requesting specialized tests, ordering medications, and reading and interpreting test result. Performs other duties by maintaining medical records and referring patients to specialist. All clinical tasks executed must comply with established policies and protocols. Performs other duties as required by the State & Local health department. Serving on departmental committees as assigned. Work is performed under the direction of the Physician.
If assigned to the STD clinic at the County Health Department, will be responsible for assisting with the treatment and diagnosis of patients with sexually transmitted diseases. Responsible for performing specialized assessments according to established protocols and guidelines. Eliciting health histories related to sexual activity and presenting symptoms (e.g., previous STDs, pregnancy, contraceptive history). Requesting specialized tests, blood samples and other laboratory specimens, and ordering medications. Reading and interpreting test results to determine the type and stage of the STD, cervical cancer, or other related infections and administer appropriate treatment as permitted under protocol. Providing counseling and education to individuals and groups including high-risk individuals (e.g., adolescents, drug users, and sex workers) on proper hygiene and health care practices, HIV/STD, infections and instructions, and other communicable diseases to high- risk groups. Administering Hepatitis B vaccine to adolescents and other high-risk individuals.
Candidates must have a Master’s degree as an Advanced Practice Provider- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. A minimum of three (3) years of directly related in the health field, preferably as a Nurse Practitioner. Candidates must be certified by Texas Board of Nurse Examiners as a Advanced Practitioner with a current Texas License as an APRN without restrictions. Candidates must demonstrate and maintain the credentialing and licensing requirements set by the Texas Board of Medicine or the Texas Board of Nursing, along with appropriate certifying bodies. Candidates should have senior- level knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures within their field of specialty, as well as advanced verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Proficiency in making professional clinical decisions and operating autonomously under written protocols is essential. Must have completed a formal training program with an approved Women’s Health Care or Family Health certification. Current BLS/AED certification is also required. Must possess and maintain a vaild Texas Drivers License with an acceptable driving record.
