Job Summary: Under limited supervision from the program director, the Maternal and Child Health Specialist uses intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to develop and deliver programs and initiatives designed to improve maternal and child health outcomes in underserved populations in Wayne County. Follows established procedures to develop and deliver culturally sensitive support and education. Perform routine tasks and receive general guidance and direction to perform a variety of non-routine tasks with limited decision-making responsibility. Some judgment is required to adapt procedures, processes and techniques to apply to more complex assignments. Resolves most questions and problems and refers new or unusual issues to a higher level. Routine contact with internal and external customers is required to meet program goals and objectives.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop and implement programs and initiatives to improve maternal and child health outcomes in Wayne County, with a particular focus on underserved populations.
- Collaborate with community organizations, healthcare providers, and stakeholders to foster partnerships and coordinate efforts to support maternal and child health initiatives.
- Provide individual and group education sessions on prenatal care, child development, nutrition, parenting skills, and other relevant topics.
- Assess the cultural and linguistic needs of the target population and ensure that program materials and resources are accessible and culturally appropriate.
- Advocate for the rights and well-being of mothers and children, particularly those from marginalized communities, by addressing social determinants of health and advocating for policy changes.
- Provide counseling, referrals, and support services to individuals and families in need, connecting them with appropriate community resources and healthcare providers.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement comprehensive care plans for pregnant women and children, ensuring continuity of care and addressing holistic needs.
- Conduct outreach activities and community events to raise awareness about maternal and child health issues and promote available resources and services.
- Collect and maintain accurate program data, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and using data to evaluate program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Remains current with research, best practices, and policies related to maternal and child health, sharing knowledge and promoting evidence-based approaches within the organization.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, conferences, and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge in maternal and child health.
- Attends assigned meetings as required.
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance.
- Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements
- Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred)
- Required Disciplines: Public Health, Nursing, Social Work, or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in maternal and child health preferably in a nonprofit or community-based setting.
Licenses/Certifications

- None. Certified Health Worker preferred
Working Conditions: Client controlled office environment.
Hours: Normal business hours. Ability to adjust hours of work based on the community needs, including some evening and weekends.
Travel Required: local travel only
