We offer a classroom based orientation program with buddy shifts to facilitate learning and skill development. The preferred candidate for this unit is one who has a strong interest, experience and ability to provide family centered care to the antepartum and postpartum patient, newborn and family. Experience in postpartum and newborn assessment a definite asset. Candidates who enjoy teaching and supporting patients in the parenting role will find this role rewarding. Additional education in breast-feeding support will be beneficial. Please note the start dates will vary depending on individual orientation requirements.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Basic computer skills. Good communication skills and the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Competence in relevant technical nursing skills and a willingness to learn new skills as required. Demonstrated ongoing responsibility for maintaining own continuing competence through professional development activities. Ability and availability to work a combination of days, evenings, nights, and weekends. Ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent experience in postpartum/antepartum and newborn care required. Current IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) Certification as asset. Inter-professional Communication. Patient/Client/Family/Community-Centered Care. Leadership and critical thinking skills. Ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities. Ability to work within a team environment and patient care planning. Understanding of teaching/learning concepts.
