We are seeking an on-site Lab Manager to provide operational oversight of our two Los Angeles sperm banking facilities. The Manager will work under the guidance of the Tissue Bank Director and Lab Director to ensure implementation of our Quality Management Plan and compliance with all applicable regulations and institutional standards (Tissue Bank and FDA).

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Semen Specimen Processing

Performs semen analysis using CASA or standard microscopy
Determines semen preparation type (ICI or IUI) and number of vials per specimen.
Performs routine cryogenic procedures using a controlled rate freezer
Assures accurate vial transfer and inventory maintenance
Assures specimen integrity

Administrative Functions

Works with the Laboratory Director to create and execute SOPs as part of a Comprehensive Quality Management Plan; assures execution of Quality Management Plan through quality assessment and improvement
Leads and documents lab meetings on a regular basis.
Monitors, updates, and maintains all laboratory documentation, including laboratory staff training records and quality control records.
Ensures competency assessments and preventative maintenance are performed and reviewed according to Standard Operating Procedures.
Oversees ordering and approval of lab equipment and supplies
Assists in the management of shipping cryopreserved sperm domestically and internationally
Assists in the analysis of data relating to laboratory performance, individual technologists and to specific research projects.

Operational Functions

Manages laboratory schedule to provide adequate coverage for seamless operational flow
Ensures adequate staffing is available, supplies are stocked and replenished as needed, and inventory is stored according to manufacturer instructions.
Reviews and signs off on donor specimen evaluations.
Provides timely information to Donor Relations team regarding specimen qualification
Trains and assures ongoing proficiency of all new laboratory personnel
Conducts and accurately records all required quality control checks and takes corrective action as needed. Take active leadership role in trouble-shooting equipment and process irregularities
Assures routine maintenance and validation of laboratory equipment is performed at defined intervals.
Manages laboratory storage tanks biorepository to ensure that all vials are properly labeled, inventoried, and stored and that storage systems are functioning properly
Assures that all quality assurance/quality control, standard operating procedures, and safety procedures and being met by laboratory staff

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in science and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in an IVF or Gamete Bank laboratory (Required)
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a lab supervisor or manager (Required)
High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in English with staff, management, clients and outside vendors; strong attention to details; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; excellent organizational skills; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to effectively supervise lab personnel
Skilled in operating equipment and materials used in a commercial sperm bank including Phase-contrast microscopy, CASA, controlled rate freezers, electronic witnessing systems, and liquid nitrogen.

Starting base salary $125,000 - $175,000
