Clinical Instructor, Nursing - Part Time

Hours: Teaching is normally scheduled between 8:00am and 10:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Start Rate: Upon hire, Human Resources will conduct a rate calculation based on completed education and work experience to determine the step within the range as per the Collective Agreement.

The School of Health, Nursing Department, is looking for Part time Clinical Instructors to support the following program areas:
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BScN)
Clinical Instructors play a key role in facilitating student learning in clinical and lab settings. They ensure students understand course objectives (as outlined in the course manual or syllabus), instructional approaches, and evaluation methods. Instruction is delivered according to the prescribed course format and complements the theory taught in lectures by program faculty.
The Clinical Instructor is responsible for creating a supportive learning environment that effectively utilizes available resources and incorporates professional experience to help students achieve the educational objectives of the assigned courses.
Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Nursing, Clinical Instructors provide academic support and maintain an effective learning environment for all students.
Please be advised that the successful incumbent will be required to provide Mohawk College with copies of academic credentials and official transcripts at the point of hire.
What you’ll be doing:
- Attend all professional practice classes as outlined in the course schedule, begin and end each class on time, and participate in pre- and post-conferences where indicated.

Model and demonstrate professional behaviors at all times, and hold students accountable for professional conduct by adhering to program policies and standards of Mohawk College (and for the BScN program, McMaster University), including Professionalism and Code of Conduct.

Provide timely, constructive, and respectful feedback to students—both verbally and in writing—highlighting strengths and encouraging growth.

Evaluate student progress and achievement, assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of student work within the assigned course, and maintain records as required. This includes providing individual evaluations at midterm and end of term, as outlined in the course manual.

Grade student evaluations using specific assignment criteria and relevant program measures, applying appropriate rubrics (e.g., Guidelines for Grading a Scholarly Paper, current APA standards).

Deliver scheduled instruction according to the prescribed course format, which may include classroom, laboratory, clinical, seminar, computer-assisted, individualized learning, and other instructional techniques.

Provide tutoring and academic support to students in assigned groups as appropriate. For BScN, refer students to Academic Advising for advanced questions.

Consult with and seek guidance from the Program Coordinator regarding student progress, attendance, or behaviors that require intervention.

Attend relevant instructor meetings, annual Faculty Development sessions, large-group educational sessions as part of the curriculum, and scholarship of education offerings where mandatory.

Create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment for all students, incorporating educational technologies and principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Communicate professionally with students through Mohawk College email or learning platforms (MyCanvas or Avenue to Learn, as applicable), guided by mutual respect and civility.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree (required for all instructor positions).

A Master’s degree (preferred).

Active employment in a clinical practice environment and a minimum of two years of clinical experience (required).

Professional practice experience in obstetrical/maternal health or pediatric care (preferred). Candidates with backgrounds in other acute care areas—such as medical-surgical, trauma, cardiology, neurology, or mental health—are also encouraged to apply.

Ability to accept assignments in the Hamilton, Halton, Brant, or Mississauga regions (preferred).

Qualifications in Adult Education or experience teaching adults (strong asset). Experience using educational technology is highly desirable, ideally in a community college setting.

Current registration and good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Ability to relate theoretical knowledge and practical applications through innovative delivery methods to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and ages.
