The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) has an exciting opportunity for a professional to serve as a Budget Analyst for the newly established Division of Maternal & Child Health. This position requires an individual who is a self-starter, resourceful, and can anticipate the needs of the PI. The successful candidate will be able to accomplish this, in part, by having excellent speaking skills, writing skills, being detail-oriented, and being able to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute complicated and continuing assignments without instruction.

Successful applicants will be highly organized, focused, detail-oriented, and possess a calm demeanor and positive attitude. Expected to function as a member of the team by working with other administrative and research staff to meet deadlines. Knowledge of university, state, and federal administrative procedures related to the primary duties of this position (e.g., procurement, travel, allowable costs, etc.) preferred. Primary Duties:

Obtain a Corporate Purchasing Card (CPC); process operational expenses including subscriptions; conference registrations, dues; research supplies and equipment and maintain required records according to university/federal policies; prepare and process other requests for payment/reimbursement (e.g., travel reimbursement, PUR01, PUR02)

Prepare and submit travel requests and expense reports in a timely manner and which follow campus policies and procedures.

Examine a variety of financial statements for completeness and accuracy and conformity with fiscal policy, assisting in maintenance and reconciliation where needed.

Perform line by line trend analyses and financial forecasts of departmental budgets.

Prepare and assemble statistical data and reports for use in budgetary evaluation, maintaining downloaded data to coordinate necessary computer files.

Provide technical advice and assistance to departmental faculty and managers on adherence to budget and control procedures.

May be asked to produce and analyze sections of special projects or participate in additional departmental and administrative services as needed.

Meet programmatic objectives of sponsored program budgeting while adhering to grant and contract agency guidelines.

Serve as the primary liaison with sponsored agencies and UMB financial offices in meeting post award reporting requirements.

Other general administrative duties such as errands, filing, photocopying, general library work, and preparing bulk mailings as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or business-related field. Master's degree preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in accounting, budgeting, or related field.
Other: Related experience may be substituted for education
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

Knowledge of formal rules for composing a variety of business communications and a strong command of English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and arithmetic required.

Computer skills: Advanced knowledge of scheduling programs (Outlook), and MS Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint) programs required; knowledge of basic office equipment and procedures, ability to locate information using a variety of resources (eg. WWW, telephone directory, etc.)
Hiring Range: $62,000 - $69,000 , Commensurate with education and experience
