For the expansion of our GER & DM commercial legal team, argenx is looking for a Legal Counsel Developed Markets.
PURPOSE OF THE FUNCTION
We are looking for a Legal Counsel Developed Markets, to support the rapid growth of our business. Initially, the role will focus within the Developed Markets Region on the support of France and the Mid-Size-Markets cluster (BeNeLux, CHAT, Nordics). The role will also be the legal business partner for global and regional commericalization teams. The successful candidate should have subject matter expertise that is relevant for the company globally and will have also the opportunity to be involved in projects outside of the region. The role will report into the Head of Legal GER & DM.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Legal Counsel Developed Markets will be part of the global Legal Compliance and IP (LCIP) team and a key member of the global and GER & DM commercial law team as well as of the relevant country business teams. This role serves as a close business partner and facilitator of the business activities and is expected to contribute to help build and grow the business across the region. The Legal Counsel Developed Markets will play a critical role across the product life cycle and will be a key advisor and enabler of successful product launches and commercialization at a global, regional and country level. The role will partner closely with colleagues across functions within Developed Markets and with the compliance and legal team across the globe. In close collaboration with legal colleagues, this role is responsible for high quality and timely guidance in all areas of the business, including medical, commercial, market access, regulatory, and distribution and will have subject matter expertise in areas such as promotion, market access, commercial contracting, competition law, as well as other areas of drug commercialization. The role will actively lead and contribute to legal projects, issues, and priorities across the global Legal and Compliance function.
Your primary areas of focus are:
- Establish legal as a strong business partner that helps build a strong and sustainable business and enables risk-appropriate decision-making
- Provide strategic, tactical and operational legal and business insight on the commercial launch of argenx product candidates
- Advise on programs, initiatives, engagements, and materials, related to sales, marketing, market access, non-promotional education activities, patient engagement and scientific exchange
- Identify training needs within the organization and develop and present training sessions on relevant laws and legal/business issues
- Stay abreast of and communicate to the organization all significant pending and actual decisions, legislation or related developments that may affect the company
- Provide advice and legal support on application and maintenance of all authorizations, permits, licenses and communication needed for local operations, including distribution and marketing of products
- Assess, supervise and manage external legal counsel as appropriate and in line with available budgets
- Closely coordinate with argenx Compliance colleagues
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Broad based knowledge of general commercial law and regulatory law impacting the pharmaceutical industry
- First-rate judgment and business acumen, including understanding of business strategy and operations
- Fluent in English and ideally in French; other language skills (especially Italian and Spanish) preferred
- Experience in specialty markets, particularly rare diseases, preferred
- Highly analytical; uses data to support decisions; can clearly communicate complex ideas in a simple way to diverse audiences
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively together within cross-functional teams and networks
- Demonstrated communication skills, within a multi-cultural and multi-lingual global environment
- Is agile and demonstrates adaptability, comfort with ambiguity, trust-building, and resilience

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE
- Law Degree and license to practice law
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience ideally in a law firm and in biotech/pharma, with at least 3 years of experience in roles serving as the legal business partner at an international level
