1. Deliver safe, direct care to an assigned group of patients, under the supervision of an RN
2. Work within Hospital and departmental policies. Adhere at all times to Nursing and Midwifery council (NMC) Code of professional conduct.
3. Act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient oriented approach to the delivery of care.
4. Greets patients and prepares them for examination. To participate in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication.
5. Use nursing processes to work in collaboration with the healthcare team, implementing and documenting individualized nursing plans of care incorporating age specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching.
6. Complete C& P of nursing procedures as specified in core matrix.
7. Administer medication, including IV medication, via the 10 Rights; document and communicate clinical findings.
8. Arranges and assists for diagnostic tests with other department. Observe patient for changes in condition.
9. Observes, records and reports patients condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians. Maintain clear and legible patient records in accordance with professional standards for record keeping.
10. Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients
11. Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards.
12. Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner.
13. Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand.
14. Maintain absolute confidentiality in respect of patient records, medical nursing and allied health professionals.
15. Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls in a pleasant professional manner.
16. Observes and utilizes infection control guidelines in patient care. Observe IC standards in handling of all instruments and specimen.
17. Maintain hygienic and safe working environment in compliance with the health care procedures.
18. Attends/ participates in-service programs necessary in providing good customer friendly service.
19. Attends meetings and participates in committees as required.
20. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
