Position Overview
The Lead Andrologist is responsible for performing, optimizing, and ensuring the quality of all andrology laboratory procedures, including semen analysis, sperm preparation, cryopreservation, and donor sample management. The Lead Andrologist will work closely with the Director of Clinical Operations and the IVF laboratory team to maintain the highest standards of laboratory practice, safety, and patient care.
This role requires strong technical expertise, independent judgment, and meticulous attention to detail. The Lead Andrologist will act as a subject matter expert in andrology processes, supporting the consistency, efficiency, and accuracy of laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform semen analyses and prepare sperm for intrauterine insemination (IUI), IVF, and other assisted reproductive procedures.
- Conduct sperm cryopreservation, thawing, and post-thaw quality assessment.
- Manage donor sperm samples, including documentation, labeling, storage, and chain-of-custody control.
- Maintain accurate and complete records in compliance with regulatory and clinic standards.
- Oversee and ensure proper sterilization of laboratory equipment and workspace.
- Prepare, verify, and manage shipments of cryopreserved specimens.
- Monitor and assist with inventory tracking and supply management for the andrology lab.
- Ensure adherence to all laboratory safety, quality control, and patient identification protocols.
- Collaborate with embryologists, clinicians, and nursing staff to support patient procedures and optimize outcomes.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency, quality assurance, and data accuracy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in a related field (biology, biomedical sciences, or equivalent).
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in a clinical andrology or IVF laboratory.
- CFAS Certification (or eligibility) required.
- In-depth understanding of patient identification procedures, laboratory quality control, and safe handling of biological specimens.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical requirements related to reproductive tissue handling and documentation.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Demonstrated capacity to work with minimal supervision and maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks and maintain composure in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Skills
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets) or equivalent digital platforms.
- Strong commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and patient-centered care.
- Self-motivated with exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently when required.
- Meticulous attention to documentation and laboratory record-keeping standards.
Working Conditions
- General laboratory and clinical office environment.
- 6-day operation: Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Availability required for holiday and weekend rotations.
