Psychiatric Nurse 1/2
What You Will Be Doing
In this position you will provide skilled nursing care to patients; individualized patient assessment and care; participate in therapeutic activities as facilitator, or co-facilitator.
You will be administering medications to patients and providing education including expected outcomes, possible side effects, and any food/drug interactions.
Transcribing all orders, recording this information in each patient's Medication Administration Record (MAR) and chart regarding patient behavior and responses to medication treatment.
You will also be completing nursing assessments on newly admitted patients, patients on close observation special status, or patients that may require emergency seclusion or restraint.
You will determine and prioritize individual nursing needs. Giving direction to Office Assistant Is and Psychiatric Nurse Assistants I/II/III including work assignments and monitoring those assignments for both completion and accuracy.

The selected candidate will work in an environment that is fast paced, busy and challenging at times, but embraces collaboration through working closely with supervisors, managers, and personnel to assist in providing services to Alaska Psychiatric Institute.

Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for a candidate with the following competencies:
Experience working with mentally ill or developmentally disabled individuals is preferred.
Ability to work independently, as well as a team member, with good judgment.
Ability to apply discretion in handling confidential information and situations, while exercising a high degree of tact, discretion, and sound judgment in the performance of the work.
Possess good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and productively manage time to ensure compliance with numerous deadlines while working effectively under pressure with continual interruption, reorganizing priorities in a dynamic, frequently changing work environment.
Above average communication skills with the ability to convey information courteously, accurately, and effectively.
