The Obstetric Surgical Technologist delivers high quality, patient -centered care by performing various functions to support the efficient operation of the Obstetric surgical suite. Under the supervision of the Circulating RN, the Surgical Technologist prepares the surgical suite, positions and prepares the patient, and provides instruments, equipment, and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure. The Surgical Technologist ensures a sterile field, proper instrument counts, and proper operation of instruments and equipment. The Surgical Technologist participates in patient -specific care as directed and follows service excellence standards to promote optimum patient satisfaction.

Organizes the operating suite with instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for the day. Reviews daily cases
-
to ensure adequate stocking. Ensures proper functioning of equipment/instruments prior to procedures.

Creates and maintains an orderly sterile instrument table. Utilizes physician preference cards for efficient setup.
-
Prepares for emergencies and add on on cases rapidly and affectively.
-
Transports patients to and from surgical suite as needed.
-
Assists in the transfer, positioning, prepping and draping of patients for surgical procedures in accordance with
-
hospital standards.
-
Performs and/or assists in scrub/gown/glove process for self and team.
-
Assists the surgeon during each procedure by passing requested/required equipment, instruments, medications,
-
sponges, sutures, etc.. Performs other duties as instructed, such as holding retractors and cutting sutures.

Anticipates situations and functions with a proactive awareness to help the surgical team maintain attention on the
-
operative f field.
-
Monitors the patient and any equipment in use to identify issues requiring immediate action. Reports and/or
-
responds calmly and efficiently.

Assists in the maintenance and care of surgical specimens. Handles surgical specimens according to hospital
-
policy.
-
Follows department procedures for proper procurement, labeling, and handling of medications, I.V. f fluids, and
-
irrigating fluids in the surgical services area.
-
Operates specialty equipment per manufacturer’s recommendations and policy/procedures.
-
Completes all sponge, sharp, and instrument counts and reports all discrepancies to the nurse or surgeon.
What Qualifications You Will Need:
- Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role is required.
- Certification in Surgical Technology.
- Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
- 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred.
