The opportunity
Hobsons Bay City Council is seeking a passionate and qualified Maternal and Child Health Nurse to join our Community Child Health Service. In this vital role, you’ll support families with children from birth to school age, promoting health, development, early intervention, and wellbeing.
Reporting to the Team Leader – MCH, you’ll deliver compassionate, family-centred care across our centres, aligned with Victoria’s MCH Service Program Standards.
What you'll do
- Provide MCH services through home visits and centre-based appointments
- Promote early childhood health, development, and wellbeing
- Offer parenting support and education
- Identify and respond to developmental and emotional needs
- Refer families to internal and external support services
- Advocate for child safety and wellbeing, including mandatory reporting
- Maintain accurate records using CDIS
- Mentor student nurses and contribute to parenting programs
- Collaborate with internal and external professionals
- Participate in supervision and ongoing professional development
Your qualifications and registrations
- Division 1 Nursing and Midwifery qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Child and Family Health Nursing
- Current AHPRA registration
- Valid Victorian Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle
- Current Working with Children Check
What you'll need to succeed
- Strong understanding of child development and early intervention
- Experience delivering MCH services in community or local government settings
- Familiarity with MCH Program Standards and best practice guidelines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in CDIS and related systems
- Ability to provide culturally responsive and inclusive care
- Experience supporting vulnerable families and working in multidisciplinary teams
